Rain Thompson promoted to Drafting and Design Lead at RAM

Vancouver, B.C. – August 11, 2023 – RAM is pleased to announce the promotion of Rain Thompson to Drafting and Design Lead at RAM.

Rain is RAM’s newly promoted Drafting and Design Lead. With over seven (7) years of experience in geotechnical drafting and design, he is responsible for managing the CAD (computer-aided design) department, as well as various IT systems. Rain has experience with the creation and maintenance of CAD standards, as well as recruitment, interviewing, and training other drafting members at RAM . Rain has provided integral support to engineers during planning, investigation, analysis, and design phases of projects including single family residential, multi-family and commercial developments, as well as renovations and remediation work. Rain is also a contributor to the BC Housing Guide, Builder Guide to Site and Foundation Drainage: Best Practices for Part 9 Buildings in British Columbia.

“In my new role as Drafting and Design Lead, I manage the computer-aided design (CAD) division that supports all engineering disciplines under RAM. In addition to managing the CAD teams, I create drafting standards, templates and systems that help to make our engineering more efficient, consistent, and reliable.”

“This role is not only new to me, but new to RAM. The opportunities to shape the role for impact are very exciting. As these opportunities arise, my mentors have been incredibly important in guiding my steps, and I have only been able to move forward because of the amazing team that has my back.

Coordinating between different offices and time zones, developing a unified system to support each engineering discipline, and implementing automation so that our CAD teams outpace the competition are all top challenges for me. To tackle this, communication will be key. By leveraging others’ perspectives and capitalizing on the wealth of experience we all share, many problems are only a few conversations away from solving.”

“I am very excited to see Rain become RAM’s Lead of Drafting and Design. This is a new role at RAM, and Rain will be shaping how the drafting and design team can support all the RAM companies. After only working with him for a few months, I can see his curiosity into new technologies and processes will drive innovation in the team,” Kiyomi Le, P.Eng., PMP RAM’s Manager of Engineering, said about Rain’s promotion.

Rain joined RAM in 2015 and previously held the role of Designer/Draftsman. When asked what he most enjoyed about working at RAM, he said, “Trope or not, I have to say it’s the people. Whether it’s a quick hello, a conversation in the lunchroom, or a serious meeting, getting to work with the people here really drives my energy day-to-day. Without exception, everyone at RAM has a lot to offer.” Rain’s biggest career advice is that “Face time is essential for effective communication and developing relationships.”

A fun fact about Rain is that he has two pet snakes named Coco and October. “They are adorable. While I won’t bring them in to the office, I’m always happy to share photos of them!”
