Project Description

Deerfoot Trail is currently Alberta’s busiest freeway and a critical component of Calgary’s transportation network for both commuter travel and goods movement. Since the road’s initial construction in the 1970s, Calgary’s population has doubled, more people have access to vehicles, and traffic volumes have continued to increase. Improvements are needed to bring the road’s capacity closer to the current and projected traffic demands, as well as improve the safety and reliability of this important transportation corridor.

RAM’s Role

As the Independent Quality Auditor, RAM is responsible to plan, perform, and report quality audits once per year to verify the project team is completing work in accordance with ISO 19011:2018, ISO 9001:2015 and the Project Quality Management System.

These independent quality audits are performed for Aecon’s two contracts. The first contract involves the design and construction of improvements from Dougasdale Boulevard to north of Glenmore Trail. The scope of work includes constructing additional lanes and seven bridges, as well as the delivery of ramp and interchange improvements. Under another contract, Aecon will construct improvements at Beddington Trail Northwest and 11th Street Northeast, including adding an additional lane in the north and southbound directions and building a ramp to connect 11th Street with Deerfoot Trail North and Beddington Trail.
