Project Description

Metro Vancouver is currently building the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant, a modern facility that will provide advanced tertiary treatment to better protect the environment and support a growing population. It will serve over 300,000 residents and businesses in North and West Vancouver, the City of North Vancouver, and the Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations, replacing the aging Lions Gate Wastewater Treatment Plant, which currently provides only primary treatment.

The new plant is designed to meet federal regulations, and will significantly improve the quality of treated water released into the Burrard Inlet. It will feature a fully enclosed design with advanced odour control, seismic resilience to meet modern earthquake standards, and adaptability to future sea level rise. The project also includes public amenities such as a plaza and community spaces, integrating the total infrastructure with the surrounding community.

Our Role

RAM was initially contacted by AECOM in September 2025 regarding the need for senior structural inspectors to support ongoing work at the North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant (NSWWTP). The request focused on providing experienced inspectors with concrete and rebar inspection expertise for a 6-12 month assignment.

Our team will provide field-based engineering and inspection support focused on:

  • Field verification of existing works relative to IFC and shop drawings;
  • Coordination with AECOM’s engineering and construction teams during joint field reviews;
  • Preparation of detailed reports identifying deviations and recommended corrective actions;
  • Supporting the Engineer of Record in developing field solutions where required.

Project Highlights

RAM received positive feedback from AECOM, specifically recognizing our ability to quickly identify and document project deficiencies shortly after joining. Within a limited timeframe, the team became familiar with project requirements and began contributing effectively to ongoing work.

As a result of this strong early performance and productivity, RAM had the assignment extended, reflecting client satisfaction and continued project demand.
