Featured Employee – PJ Mudgil

PJ is a Mechanical Engineer at RAM with nine (9) years of experience in resource-based industries. He is a registered Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with Engineers and Geoscientists BC (EGBC) and is field experienced and adept with project management, oil & gas facilities operations, turnarounds & shutdowns, maintenance, reliability, and procurement for oil & gas, as well as mining. PJ is a strategic planner, a team leader and a cost controller for fast paced projects while maintaining harmony between business goals and engineering integrity. He also has in-depth working knowledge of engineering codes and standards.

Tell us about your role at RAM? What do you like most about it?

My primary role at RAM is that of a Intermediate Mechanical Engineer with some overlap in Project Management. As per requirements of a project I can be engaged in developing mechanical designs & calculations (process design), developing project proposals, equipment/material selection, design specifications, codes & regulatory compliance and any PM related roles to fulfill. I appreciate the fact that I get to work with a great variety of engineering topics and no two projects are the same, keeping the engineering practice fresh and challenging at times.

What do you find most challenging at RAM?

The challenge that I am most concerned about originates from COVID-19 related complications. In a typical setting, multi-disciplinary engineering teams working on a project have opportunities to innovate a creative solution when working in close proximity. COVID-19 has made it harder to collaborate like that.

What is your favorite part about working at RAM?

My favorite part about working at RAM is that every RAM employee’s voice gets heard through regular inputs presented in-person or in group setting. RAM has a great feedback system to align employee concerns with the organization’s growth path.

What advice would you give to recent new hires?

I would suggest to new hires not to hesitate and come forth with their out-of-box thinking to their supervisors and managers. RAM is a rapidly growing organization and has cultivated an environment where they are open and welcoming to varied inputs from all RAMfam members.

What are 3 career lessons you’ve learned this far?

    1. Always have a 5 year plan and keep it flexible.
    2. Ideas not translated into actions are just daydreams.
    3. However good you are in your trade, collaborated efforts with willing partners will always result in better solutions.

What do you like to do on your days off?

On my off days I like playing some video games, discovering new bands, keeping up with STEM field developments & news, camping, hiking, biking when outdoors allow. Also, recently I’ve started reading into some philosophical works for a stoic perspective towards life and its challenges especially in current testing times.
