BVI Cruise Pier Opens With Pomp & Ceremony
ROAD TOWN, British Virgin Islands – Thousands of tourists disembarked from the cruise ship Norwegian Getaway yesterday morning, walking down the newly extended pier and filing past the large tent where dozens of government officials, businesspeople, and other members of the public gathered to celebrate the opening of the marine side of the cruise ship pier project completed by IDL Meridian Construction. The pier has been lengthened to 1,039 feet with mooring dolphins providing an addition 273 feet of berthing space, and can now accommodate two ships at 180,000 gross tonnage. The first anchor to mark the opening was tossed by Governor John Duncan; Premier and Minister of Finance, Hon. D. Orlando Smith; Edward DeCastro, Chairman of the BVI Ports Authority (BVIPA) Board; and Claude Skelton Cline, Director of the BVIPA.
RAM Engineering is proud to be part of the successfully completed expanded cruise ship pier in the British Virgin Islands. The largest project ever completed on the island of Tortola, the $35M project acts as a catalyst for attracting larger cruise ships and more cruise tourists that include the popular Disney and Norwegian cruise lines. RAM had an integral role as the Project Engineer, managing facets that include design, scheduling and contract management.
