Featured Staff Member: Osama Moin
Meet Osama, RAM’s Intermediate Project Engineer and Engineer-In-Training (EIT).
Tell us more about your role at RAM?
I am currently working in Project Controls. Some of my responsibilities include: reviewing daily invoices and inputting the costs into Oracle, provided the invoice has sufficient backup; assist in preparing the monthly summary reports to highlight items such as commitments to date, costs to date and estimated costs at completion. It’s neat to see the summary report at the end of the month and compare the actual costs to the planned costs. I’m also becoming involved in preparing ITT Contract documents. I find the preparation of a Contract to be very methodic and satisfying as you gather information and compile it into one entity.
What do you find most challenging at RAM?
Currently the most challenging thing for me is polishing up and improving my excel skills. Working in Project Controls involves a couple different spreadsheets in which we are improving regularly to auto-update every month. Did you know you can use a SUM, INDEX, MATCH and IF function all at once?
What is your favorite part about working at RAM?
The team! Everyone is very nice and likes to keep everyone involved. Everyone works hard and even though they might be a bit stressed, you’ll always get a hello and a smile.
What are 3 career lessons you’ve learned this far?
- Remember to breathe. Often times if you’re a junior member of the team or taking on bigger responsibilities, you will feel overwhelmed and tend to stress out more easily. Take deep breaths regularly to keep your head clear.
- Don’t beat yourself up over mistakes. Reflect and learn from them and you will perform better moving on.
- Your attitude reflects directly onto the quality of your work. We all have our bad days but it’s important to keep your goals in mind and put your best foot forward.
What do you like to do on your days off?
Weightlifting! Most of my time outside of work is spent at the gym improving my technique and strength. Outside of weightlifting, I like to go snowboarding, hiking, play spikeball, watch movies, or play some video games, card games and board games with friends. I also enjoy eating copious amounts of food and at home, I try to brew different styles of coffee occasionally. The coffee usually doesn’t turn out as nice as I hope.
