RAM recently partnered with the C.O.D.E. Initiative Foundation to host a one-day workshop aimed at inspiring self-identifying girls in grades 5, 6, and 7 to explore the world of engineering. The one-day workshop featured three hands-on sessions, each focusing on a different engineering discipline: mechanical engineering, civil engineering, and computer engineering.

1. Mechanical Engineering Workshop: The mechanical engineering workshop introduced the girls to the world of hydraulics through an exciting activity involving a scissor lift. Under the guidance of our Director of Project Delivery, Monique, the participants learned about the principles of hydraulic systems, gaining practical knowledge by constructing and operating their own hydraulic scissor lifts. This engaging session not only showcased the applications of mechanical engineering but also encouraged the girls to think critically and problem-solve in a collaborative environment.
2. Civil Engineering Workshop: Led by our Senior Project Manager, Team Lead , Heather, the civil engineering workshop focused on building bridges. The girls were introduced to the fundamental principles of structural engineering and were challenged to design and construct their own structurally sound bridges using various materials.
3. Computer Engineering (Robotics) Workshop: In the computer engineering workshop, the participants had the opportunity to explore the world of programming and robotics. With the guidance of the C.O.D.E. volunteers, the girls learned how to code Sphero robots, enabling them to bring their creations to life. This coding session not only developed their computational thinking and problem-solving skills but also inspired their interest in the intersection of technology and engineering.

The workshop was held at the RAM office located downtown, providing a professional and immersive environment for the girls to engage with the engineering activities. The collaboration between RAM and the C.O.D.E. Initiative Foundation exemplifies the shared commitment to empowering underrepresented communities in STEAM fields.

Female-founded and led, The C.O.D.E. Initiative is a non-profit organization founded to Create Opportunities and Define Education.
