Project Description

In order to facilitate the construction of the Highway 99 and Highway 17 interchange, the existing BC Hydro 69kV transmission lines needed to be relocated. The scope of the project included the installation of 30m transmission structures and required a highway closure for installing and removing the overhead lines.

RAM’s Role
RAM was retained by the joint venture FTG Constructors, comprising of Ledcor, Dragados, BellPacific and Vancouver Pile Driving. This $700 Million P-3 project was a design, build, operate, finance and maintain. RAM provided project management services for construction and technical design review for all third party utilities. RAM staff was integrated into the joint venture team and directly managed approximately $230 Million of construction scope.

Project Highlights

RAM completed a feasibility review on alternate alignment options to optimize the final location and resulted in minimal land acquisition. The transmission line at 72nd St. and HWY 99 project consisted of

  • Raising existing line
  • Removal of 10 existing structures
  • Relocation of existing switch to near str. 1-06BCI
  • Re-conducting the line section
