Project Description

Completed in 2020, this project consisted of installing approximately 820 metres of 630-mm PVC main sanitary sewer line with associated fitting for Metro Vancouver, including three plastic-lined manholes and 20 metres of 267-mm PVC Sanitary line and fittings for the City of Burnaby.  Some of the processes involved with this included:

  • Open cut excavation;
  • One cast-in-place concrete manhole;
  • Backfilling as per MMCD;
  • Full pavement structure restoration.

Our Role

RAM’s quality management team provided various services for this project, which included:

  • Preparing a project specific Quality Control Plan, an Inspection and Test Plan (ITP), and checklists for each work function;
  • Performing thorough site inspections;
  • Reviewing QC test results, and providing QC summary reports for each segment of work as per Metro Vancouver’s requirements.

Project Highlights

This project was located on North Road, which precisely divides the two municipalities of Burnaby and Coquitlam.  Each region has differing requirements regarding pipeline alignments and right of ways, which RAM carefully addressed and presented to the client.

Each municipality also has its own special provisions, which is in addition to Master Municipal Construction Document (MMCD) requirements. These were acknowledged by RAM when our team drafted a Quality Control Plan for approval.  Some further highlights of the project were:

  • The approval of our Quality Control Plan by Metro Vancouver, the City of Burnaby, and the city of Coquitlam;
  • Working in the high-traffic volume of North Road without significant delay or disturbance;
  • Reviewing a very specialized concrete mix for the cast-in-place manhole;
  • Delivering a complex restoration plan that successfully met the requirements of both the  City of Burnaby and the City of Coquitlam.
