Project Description

RAM is providing comprehensive geotechnical engineering services for the City of Vancouver’s new Freedom Mobile Arch amphitheatre at Hastings Park. To support this landmark civic development, RAM is engineering the venue’s foundational systems and managing the design of critical water main and sanitary sewer utility upgrades.

The proposed development includes a canopy roof supported by a steel-and-wood truss structure founded on three buttresses with piles, with a facility building on the northwest side of the proposed structure founded on a basement level, as well as other structural features including a VIP deck, stage, and retaining walls.

Our Role

RAM is responsible for many geotechnical services for this project, some of which include:

  • coordinating and supervising subsurface investigations, which comprise 23 auger and sonic holes;
  • performing permeability testing of soil;
  • monitoring groundwater;
  • preparing Geotechnical Investigation Reports which include results of subsurface investigations and construction recommendations with regards to matters such as excavation, piles, and foundations;
  • preparing Excavation / Shoring and Erosion and Sediment (ESC) Control Plan Drawings;
  • conducting field reviews during construction.
