Project Description

The Surrey–Langley SkyTrain (SLS) extension is a major rapid transit infrastructure initiative expanding the SkyTrain network into the Fraser Valley. This portion of the work covers independent Quality Assurance (QA) oversight of precast concrete walkway support units and trap girders fabricated by Con-Force Structures for the elevated guideway system.

RAM ensures all fabrication, testing, and documentation activities meet contrast specification, engineering design requirements, and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) standards. The QA scope includes verification of Quality Control (QC) records, audit of non-conformance and corrective action reports, and validation of all pre-pour and post-pour inspection documentation prior to shipment.

RAM’s Role

As Owner’s Representative, RAM’s role includes:

Pre-Pour Phase

  • Review of Documents such as Issued for Construction (IFC) drawing, mix design approvals, and material certificates
  • Inspection of formwork and verification of reinforcement layout, spacing, cleanliness and cover in accordance with CSA A23.4 and IFC tolerances.

During Pour Phase

  • Verify concrete placement, temperature and batch time compliance.
  • Witness and record field tests for slump/slump flow, air content, and temperature. • Monitor consolidation and vibration to prevent segregation or displacement of rebar and embedded items.

Post-Pour Phase

  • Dimensional checks within CSA and design tolerances and surface finish elevation to confirm Class 2 uniformity.
  • Review of curing data to confirm compliance and verification of identification markings.
  • Review and close-out of Non-Conformance Reports (NCR) ensuring approved corrective actions are implemented.
  • Ensure QA records are reviewed, signed off, and included in the quarterly fabrication status reports by the P.Eng.
