Congratulations to Our New Manager of Project Management, Monique Lal!

RAM is excited to announce our new Manager of Project Management, Monique Lal, P.Eng., PMP!

Monique has fourteen (14) years of progressive experience in delivering large capital projects. She is experienced in managing projects from conceptual studies through to construction in a variety of industries such as hydro and thermal power generation, pulp and paper, transmission and distribution (substations) and oil sands. Monique also has extensive experience working with clients in both private and public sectors. 

Tell us about your role at RAM? What do you like most about it?

I am fortunate to manage the Project Management team who are a highly motivated and high performing group. Everyone on our team has incredible attention to detail, professionalism in handling complex projects, and are constantly seeking efficiencies in project delivery. My role (which they make really easy) is to ensure they have the tools and support they need to succeed on their projects and in the pursuit of their career goals. And also find the next project to keep them busy!

What advice would you give to recent new hires?

Get involved as much as you can! Attend lunch and learns, try to get to a project site, join a committee and be curious about what other departments do.

What are 3 career lessons you’ve learned this far?

    1. When an opportunity comes your way, say yes. Even if it isn’t always clear what path it will take you down. You can always redirect, but you’ll be surprised how often you won’t need to.
    2. At the risk of sounding ancient – pick up the phone and call people. Human connection is everything. Instead of writing 20 emails, accomplish the same thing with a 5-minute phone call while also developing a relationship (that you will likely need to lean on in the future).
    3. Be authentic. Is poser still a word? No one likes a poser.

What do you like to do on your days off?

I have an artsy side that comes out! I craft with my daughters, I’m an avid gardener, I play piano (very poorly), and in keeping with my ancient theme – I love knitting.

Our experienced, in-house professionals have built cruise ship piers, rapid transit projects, utilities, overpasses, and highways for public and private clients. Our PMT’s industry relationships and expertise with clients and stakeholders allow for effective delivery of your project. Our experience with major infrastructure projects paired with smaller municipal capital infrastructure programs/projects allow our PMT to provide leadership at all stages.
