Project Description
Based in Burnaby, B.C., this mass-burn incineration facility is owned by Metro Vancouver and operated by Covanta. The facility sustainably processes approximately twenty-five percent of Metro Vancouver’s post-recycled waste stream, converting it into approximately 180,000 MWh of electricity annually, which is sold to BC Hydro. In addition, local recyclers purchase the 5,000 tonnes of metal that Waste-to-Energy recovers every year.
Various priority upgrades have been identified to ensure the further expansion and efficiency of the Waste-to-Energy Facility, which include, but are not limited to, the following projects:
- Refuse crane replacement
- Bottom ash crane replacement
- Fabric filter hopper refurbishment
- Biosolid processing
- Electrical transformer replacement
- Compressed air system replacement
- Fly ash silo refurbishment
