Project Description

Based in Burnaby, B.C., this mass-burn incineration facility is owned by Metro Vancouver and operated by Covanta. The facility sustainably processes approximately twenty-five percent of Metro Vancouver’s post-recycled waste stream, converting it into approximately 180,000 MWh of electricity annually, which is sold to BC Hydro.  In addition, local recyclers purchase the 5,000 tonnes of metal that Waste-to-Energy recovers every year.

Various priority upgrades have been identified to ensure the further expansion and efficiency of the Waste-to-Energy Facility, which include, but are not limited to, the following projects:

  • Refuse crane replacement
  • Bottom ash crane replacement
  • Fabric filter hopper refurbishment
  • Biosolid processing
  • Electrical transformer replacement
  • Compressed air system replacement
  • Fly ash silo refurbishment

Our Role

RAM is building an overarching program to initiate, execute, and close-out Waste-to-Energy plant upgrade projects. Taking into account the steadily-increasing need to sustainably maintain and upgrade the mechanical, structural, electrical, civil, and environmental components of the facility, RAM is providing a full-scale project life cycle that involves:

  • Opportunity assessment
  • Bidding and procurement
  • Execution of services
  • Cost and budgetary impact
  • Initiation and setup
  • Project close-out
