Project Description

The North Shore Wastewater Treatment Plant (NSWWTP) started in 2012 and is part of a larger program that also includes a pump station and sewer pipes to serve the new plant and the decommissioning of the existing Lions Gate Treatment Plant. The Project Owner is Metro Vancouver and it will be operated by the Greater Vancouver Sewerage & Drainage District (GVS&DD).

The Project team engaged with a range of audiences for feedback on the Project throughout the design, allowing all participants to provide input and collaborate with the design and its impacts on the local stakeholders. One of the greatest successes from the stakeholder engagement was upgrading the Project from secondary treatment to tertiary treatment. The outcome and overarching design philosophy for the Project was to create a facility that met the vision and goals of the local community, meaningfully improving the wellbeing of the community, creating a public destination, and inspiring environmental stewardship.

RAM’s Role

RAM conducted a review of documents that were pertinent to Envision, and also performed a gap analysis which outlined the gaps and outstanding items to be completed before the Envision verification. Accordingly, RAM provided recommendations for higher performance, and outlined any gaps based on the initial scoring done by previous consultants. Following the review and gap analysis, RAM provided Envision advisory services to the Project contractor to ensure that the Envision requirements for the NSWWTP were met. Additionally, our team prepared credit coversheets and performed quality assurance and quality control on credits completed by previous consultants, adjusting as needed. RAM led and submitted the Envision Verification Submission of the Project to the Institute of Sustainable Infrastructure, going above the Project Agreement and submitted it at Platinum rating instead of a Gold rating.
