Project Description
The Government of the British Virgin Islands (BVI) expanded the existing facilities at the Cruise Ship Pier at Wickham’s Cay I in Road Town in order to accommodate the berthing of larger mega-cruise ships that have entered the Caribbean market, and are capable of accommodating 4,000 passengers.
As a design-build project the works included widening and extending the existing Cruise Ship Pier, dredging by cutter suction dredger for a turning basin in Road Town Harbour, land reclamation in the vicinity of the Road Town Jetty, and construction of a boardwalk.
RAM’s Role
RAM was retained by the joint venture to lead contract and design management. Our scope also included providing project scheduling and drafting services for temporary works. We produced a Project Quality Management Program and implemented it with the site staff and subconsultants. Challenges included an accelerated construction schedule and long lead time for procurement as most material needed to be barged onto the Island.
