Project Description

In 2019, BC Hydro determined that a 16-kilometre feeder circuit of 25kVA from the Cambie Substation in Richmond had reached its planning limit, resulting in downstream customers experiencing voltage issues.

The purpose of the design was to reconfigure the feeders as well as complete some cascade load transfers amongst the feeder circuits to free up the needed capacity beyond the planning limit. The project consisted of overhead and underground work.

Our Role

RAM completed detailed design and engineering technical support during construction, cut-covers, and closeout. The project objective aimed to resolve customer voltage issues due to a planning limit on the feeder circuit. Our scope of work included:

  • Reconducting;
  • Inventory survey of the feeder and existing equipment;
  • Replacing fused cut-outs and installation of load break switches;
  • Transferring load;
  • Responding to inquiries during construction.
