Project Description

RAM has been working with BC Hydro since 2023 to design electric vehicle charging stations in a variety of locations across the province. The projects in this program range from feasibility studies to provide a quick assessment of a potential site, to full engineering design and construction coordination of the charging station. RAM is responsible for engaging additional consultants, such as structural or traffic engineers, whenever required to complete the station design.

RAM’s Role

  • Working with BC Hydro to complete the electrical and civil engineering designs for new EV charging stations across the province.
  • Engaging key stakeholders, such as local municipalities, to obtain relevant permits or approvals. • Securing additional resources to support the completion of the designs, such as structural engineers, traffic engineers, geotechnical engineers, and architects, as required.
  • Supporting construction crews to address any questions on site.
  • Completing feasibility studies to identify future EV station locations.

Project Highlights

RAM has designed and constructed over two dozen sites across the province, including the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island, and as far north as Good Hope Lake. A project in this program has been nominated for the 2025 Association of Consulting Engineers Canada BC (ACEC BC) Awards for Engineering Excellence in the Energy & Industry category.

Additionally, in 2024, the provincial government planned to complete BC’s Electric Highway network by installing a total of 155 charging stations across the province by the end of the summer. RAM was instrumental in delivering this aggressive target by managing the design and construction of over two dozen sites simultaneously, as well as delivering feasibility studies for eleven sites for BC Hydro to consider in the future
