Project Description

Gitga’at First Nation built a daycare as part of their overall capital program schedule for the 2022 and 2023 construction seasons. The project consisted of a standalone building and playground in the heart of Hartley Bay. The daycare now serves as a licensed childcare space to provide affordable and quality child care for local families.

Our Role

RAM was retained by Gitga’at First Nation as construction managers to undertake a constructability review and value engineering exercise on engineering documents prior to the initiation of the procurement process. RAM created a “fit for purpose” strategy to select qualified contractors with a cost-effective risk management and project contingency plan.

Following contract execution, RAM worked with the construction team to effectively plan site activities; develop comprehensive safety, environmental, and quality management programs; and ensure all permitting and regulatory requirements were met.

Project Highlights

This project involved the successful execution and delivery of a daycare facility utilizing specialized remote construction techniques and cold weather construction engineering controls. Key project workstreams required structured First Nations engagement to align delivery with stakeholder objectives.

Project execution was controlled through rigorous HSE management systems to mitigate site risks, alongside a comprehensive quality management framework to verify all structural tolerances. Additionally, systematic contractor management ensured strict adherence to procurement specifications, project schedules, and budgetary constraints.
