Project Description
RAM was engaged by FortisBC for a comprehensive Category D inspection of the Second Narrows Bridge crossing between Vancouver and North Vancouver, employing UAV drones and visual evaluations due to physical access challenges. The inspection focused on identifying corrosion and coating issues on the span’s pipeline.
Our Role
The inspection included the following observations:
- Evaluating the condition of ground entry points;
- Assessing corrosion in specific locations (e.g. pits);
- Evaluating pipe supports and pipe rollers, spring hangers and structural brackets;
- Observing and assessing vibrations due to external forces;
- Assessing the condition of pipe coatings and surfaces, such as any fading, flaking, blistering, rust, and pitting;
- Evaluating the condition of pipe / tower / cable anchors;
- Analyzing for leakage (due to corrosion or damage).
