Tell us about your role at RAM? What do you like most about it?

I’m the Marketing & Proposals Specialist at RAM. I manage RAM’s proposals, marketing programs and our community partnerships and initiatives. My favourite part about my role is being able to work with every department at RAM! This allows me to be familiar with all the cool projects RAM is currently working on and the unique opportunity to get to know everyone in the company. My role also allows me to be creative and collaborative, and honestly, no two days are ever the same for me.

What do you find most challenging at RAM?

In the beginning, it was really challenging to enter a technical industry with no technical background. I was so intimidated by the engineering jargon and acronyms thrown around at meetings. I was so afraid to speak up because I was afraid my opinion didn’t matter. But everyone at RAM was so supportive in explaining the terminology and inviting me to share my thoughts. I realised that me not having a technical background was valued, since I was able to offer a different perspective. I’m so happy to be able to work in a company where I’m comfortable to speak up and ask questions.

What advice would you give to recent new hires?

It’s ok to say no. This was incredibly difficult for me especially as a fresh graduate. I was excited to jump into every opportunity and initiative thrown at me, causing me to juggle too many things at once and losing sight of my priorities and goals. Learning to say no has helped me align my goals and has freed up my schedule to be able to be more creative and innovative in my role.

What are 3 career lessons you’ve learned this far?

  1. Always ask questions. If you’re confused about an acronym in a meeting, chances are, other people in the room also are. So never be afraid to ask questions!
  2. Prioritize your mental health. When your mental health isn’t at its best, you’re not at your best and you’re not able to perform at your best.
  3. Stay curious. Curiosity allows you to become open to exploring new ideas, experiences, connections, and possibilities. Curiosity has pushed me to be more creative, go outside my comfort zone, and continue to grow!

What do you like to do on your days off?

Reading! I’m currently reading the Harry Potter series for the first time…
