Project Description

Rio Tinto planned to upgrade its port development laydown facilities comprised of multiple Alcan paved access roads and an aggregate finished storage facility. The scope of work included:

  • Clearing, grubbing, and mass excavation
  • Mechanically Stabilized Earth (MSE) Wall Construction
  • Anchored Secant Pile Wall Construction
  • Road Base Construction and Asphalt Paving
  • Utility Relocations and Installations including:
    • Water Mains
    • Sanitary Mains
    • Storm Water Mains
    • Underground and Overhead Electrical Cables
    • Fiber-Optic Cables

RAM’s Role

RAM was retained by IDL Projects to complete a detailed Class 1 estimate for the Laydown Facilities. The work included detailed unit pricing from productions, crew buildup, equipment resources, and indirects.

Project Highlights

The RAM team was required to overcome many challenges in preparing a commercial submission including:

•Completing a risk register to evaluate certain activities that have a level of unknown
•Proposal for rock compaction to eliminate differential settlement on facilities
•Consideration of working in remote conditions including transportation and accommodations
•Working with suppliers and subcontractors to submit pricing for work that would be constructed over many years
